Dr Walter Köck worked as "Taldoktor" in Paznaun for more than three decades. This exhibition illustrates his work as a parish doctor, but also his work in retirement: stories, videos and audios from Walter sketch exciting impressions of a life and reflect his view of the valley and its people.

I like to use different materials, such as acrylic paints, stains, marble and stone powder, ash, rust, papers, bark, coffee...
Applied to the canvas with a brush and spatula, these materials give the images vibrancy and depth.
ART IS NOT THE BREAD, BUT IT IS THE WINE OF LIFE.

My source of inspiration is nature in all seasons, which creates a diversity that is reflected in my pictures. My passion for colors and painting has accompanied me since 2011. I am self-taught and have also taken part in some workshops, but have never decided on a specific style.

The Alpinarium Galtür was nominated by the European Museums Academy for the Micheletti Award 2017. In June 2017, two jury members, Dr. Karl Borromäus Murr (Director of the State Industrial and Textile Museum Augsburg) and Dr. Hermann Schäfer (historian – founding president of the House of History) visited the exhibition centre and learned about the concept, the research and educational projects, as well as the current events.
Project manager Helmut Pöll and municipal executive Martin Walter travelled to Skopje as representatives of the Alpinarium Galtür to take part in the meeting of the European Museum Academy and the award ceremony. "Already during the presentation of the 28 candidates, including e.g. the Hittisau Women's Museum from Vorarlberg, we could see that the competitors were exceptionally good exhibition centres with exciting exhibitions", said Helmut Pöll.
The Micheletti Award 2017 went to the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre in Dublin (Ireland).
The Alpinarium Galtür was awarded with a special prize – a "Special Commendation".
The jury’s reason was: The Alpinarium Galtür has an impressive concept with a dramatic background, whereby the unique atmosphere of the village, the charm of the valley with its impressive mountains and the solidarity of the population portray a coherent picture. The museum acts as a source of social cohesion and has become a model for dealing with other disasters worldwide.
Managing director and mayor Anton Mattle explains: “The continuity, authenticity and magnificent effort of all employees are what lead to such successes. The award is a recognition of what we have achieved and a motivation for the future!”
