Cooperation project with the museum "ora et labora" at the Marienberg monastery in Vinschgau / South Tyrol
This year the motto of the Euregio Museum Year 2025 is “seeing further”. The central themes of this museum year are the peasant uprisings in 1525 and the demands for co-determination and equality of the peasant leader Michael Gaismair. 25 individual and cooperative projects from 35 museums from the entire European region of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino were created and dealt with the social upheavals of the 16th century and the challenges of the past and present.
On the occasion of this Museum Year the Alpinarium Galtür created togehter a project with the museum "ora et labora" at the Marienberg monastery in Vinschgau in South Tyrol. Cheese to Marienberg is the name of the new exhibiton, which you can visit in the Alpinarium Gatlür. This new exhibition is moving between connections, dependencies and similarities. The farmers of Galtür had to pay taxes for a long time because the lords of Tarasp and the Marienberg monastery owned large estates in Galtür, Mathon and Ischgl. Every year the farms from Galtür walked along the so called "Zinsweg" to bring the taxes in form of cheese, hides and later money to Marienberg. You also can see a movie about the "Zinsweg" in this new exhibiton because in the summer in 2024 a delegation hiked along this path from Marienberg monastery to Galtür. You also will find Michael Gaismayr and his demands for co-determination and equal rights for all citizens and the Tyrolian Provincial Charter of 1526. Comparisons are also made between the past and the present and you can take a look into the future.
You can visit this new exhibition from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Monday our exbibiton house has closed.
